Ethan and the Little Women.
So.....we had all day yesterday to get ready for our trip to Frogknot.Wendy arrived at 4.30 pm to take over the shift, allowing us to escape. The car was all packed and ready to go."The traffic is good," said Wendy....almost immediately as we hit the highway we found our selves in a jam."Did you remember you tablets?" Asked Will as we were about to climb the Range.I hadn't.Damn....everything had been perfect up until that point!Look...taking these tablets daily is all new to me and I have been very good and I have been remembering to take them first thing in the morning....I just completely forgot about them when packing. We had planned to spend the day 'cobbing' but this morning when we woke up we headed into Stanthorpe to find a Pharmacy. The girl who served me looked about 12.I explained that I was up from Brisbane for the weekend and had recently begun taking blood pressure medication and had forgotten to bring it with me. I handed her a piece of paper with my name, the name of the medication and the number of Dr Wang's Surgery hoping that she would be able to ring them and get it sorted quickly....I only needed 2 tablets after all.Nothing is quite so simple though is it........ever?"Perhaps you could ring them," said the school girl, " and get them to fax your prescription to us?......Here is our number."My blood pressure edged up.My phone was running out of battery so I used Will's.I rang the Surgery."Your Medical Centre, Acacia Ridge...Ethan speaking.""Hi Ethan,".....I explained the situation to him."Hmmm, What is your name?"I told him."...And your date of birth?"I told him."...And your telephone number?"I gave him the Celtis St one thinking it was a security question."I don't know we can do about that...I'll speak to Dr Wang and ring you back.""But not on that number I just gave you," I said, " because I am not at home. I am in Stanthorpe.""Oh, what number should I ring you on?"Will had to relay his number through me because I did not know it."Oh, Just a minute, I need a pen..." said Ethan.......my blood pressure was rising. "Ok..."I told him the number again."Can I help you?" Asked a woman from the Pharmacy cheerfully....I was sitting on a chair in the area of the shop where they sold shoes.I wanted to stand up and push her into the display of orthopaedic shoes behind her.....but I didn't."No," I said curtly. Will's phone was running out of battery now. We went and sat in Roxy for a bit and charged his phone up to about 50% and then went to 'Zest' for brunch.I wanted the egg and bacon ciabatta but they were out of them...my blood pressure took a step up.I settled for a chicken and leek pie and a hot chocolate. When we came out it was about 11.00 am. The Pharmacy was closing at 12. We went in to see if they had received a fax yet but they hadn't.We went out and I rang Ethan. He hadn't been able to speak to Dr Wang yet.......ye gods! A little steam started to come out of my ears.We tried to wander down the street but we kept on bumping into small middle aged women* who greeted Will with kisses. At one point there was a queue with one woman cutting short her chat and making way for the next. Finally Ethan rang. The prescription had been faxed. We went back to the Pharmacy and bumped into little woman number 4*. I left her talking to Will while I queued to get my blood pressure tablets.....it was just in time.....they were about to close and my head was about to explode......possibly!(* No harm came to any of the women mentioned in this post and though small it must be said that they were all lovely.)
