So.........this time last week we woke up for the second time at Big Bend......and it was pretty cold.We decided to forego breakfast and just pack up and get away as soon as we could.Michael and Rowan were packing up too and we knew that Melanie (White hat) and her man were leaving too.Michael and Rowan got packed up first and came over to say 'bye' to us and then we saw them go and say 'bye' to Melanie and man.We were ready not long after and headed over to where Melanie and her fella had been camping and were surprised to see they had already gone without saying bye.We shouldn't have been surprised but we were....obviously our first impressions of them were right..... They were an ignorant pair.We caught them up at the second river crossing and overtook them and never said 'Bye' as we passed.Lots of people that we passed asked if we had camped out the night before and asked 'weren't you cold?' We weren't because we have decent sleeping bags........we're not stupid! The first section when you are walking in or the last section on the way out of the gorge is the hilliest and here we stopped for a rest. Michael and Rowan caught us up. We had passed them as they had gone to look at The Amphitheatre on the way back.We said 'bye' again and they went on ahead. We caught up with them once more when we got to the Visitor Centre. They were talking to the Ranger from Sheffield.Michael said "We have this man to thank for that ladder on the way up to Battleship Spur.""Ah," I said, " yes, we were impressed by the path up there but it just needs to be clearer at the bottom. We both missed the path up and kept on going up the gorge.""Did you not see the arrow carved into the boulder in the gorge?" said Ranger Sheffield. We hadn't. He told us it was hard to fix something permanent as any flood washes everything away.As we walked away I called,"Next time I am in Sheffield I will say hello for you!"..........and then thought what a stupid thing to say. I live here now, when would I be next in Sheffield. He might be going back next week for all I know.It was good to see Roxy waiting for us in the car park and we didn't hang about and set off for Frogknot. We stopped at Roma for lunch but most places closed early on a Saturday.....don't ask me why, it doesn't make sense to me either.......but we found an Indian cafe open and had Chicken Tikka burgers while watching strange slow motion Bollywood music videos on a big screen. From Roma we headed south to Surat and then east to Glenmorgan and Meandarra before turning south again to Westmar. We stopped at Westmar and pitched our tent at a rest area by the highway. It had free hot artesian showers. We walked over to the store for some tea which was also a pub and ordered some food from the large, miserable looking woman behind the counter. I ordered the pork chops and Will got the breaded fish. There were a few people in the pub watching the Channel 9 news and shaking their heads in disbelief as we normally do when home. The meals were huge......we should have known.......it was hardly cordon bleu, and typical pub food. I had two chops, chips and practically every vegetable, mashed potato, a roast potato, roast pumpkin, beans, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potato and courgette. 'Elaine' was thrilled!Back at the tent we marvelled at how clear the Milky Way was away from the bright lights of towns and cities. We went for our hot Artesian shower.........Will went in the men's and I went in the disabled one. The water was lovely and warm and my shower was great until I was halfway through washing and it became a tiny trickle. I wondered if it was on some kind of timer but then realised that Will had started his shower and all the water was diverted to him. I managed to finish off with just the trickle and we went to bed.I could hear foxes calling in the night and heard the thud of kangaroos hopping about close by until I finally fell asleep. In the morning we set off again and had breakfast at Goondiwindi and then drove to Stanthorpe via Texas and we arrived at Frogknot at about 2.30 ish. We had to chainsaw one tree out of the way on the drive up but you know the rest after that, if you have been paying attention.
