To Toowoomba...twice!

So...we have had Ros with us for the weekend and yesterday we all went up to Toowoomba, which is about two hours away, to see the flowers in the park from the recent Festival of Flowers and to have lunch with Andrew. We also made time to catch up with Will's friend's Julié and Gail and visited the 'Cobb and Co' museum where a whip made by Will's Grandfather is supposed to be on display. We called at Bunnings on our way home at 6.30 and ended up buying a terracotta water filter.I have wanted one for ages so that we can filter the rainwater from the tank as I am pretty sure it will contain dissolved possum pooh. The box was open that we found on the shelf but we were able to check that the pots inside were not broken."Shall we get a box that is unopened?" Asked Will."No, this one looks fine," I said and we took it to the counter. The cashier at the checkout said,"Oh, it's open. Shall we just check it is all there?""It is," I said, "we checked." He was happy with that and we paid for it and left.We headed home and just before we got to Warwick, about an hours drive, I was thinking about the water filter and why the box was open and suddenly thought that I had not remembered seeing a lid for it."Do you remember seeing a lid for that filter in the box?" I asked Will. He couldn't."That's why the box was open," I said, "someone has stolen the lid because theirs broke."There was a Bunnings in Warwick but it had closed 30 minutes earlier but the one back in Toowoomba was open until 9.00 pm."Just check that the lid is not in the box" I said to Will. So we pulled over and he went and checked the box. He found no lid so we turned around and headed the 70 kms (50 mins) back to Toowoomba. We carried the water filter in with the receipt."How's your day going?" asked the woman at Customer Services."It could be better," said Will. " We bought this awhile ago. The box was open when we bought it but we have since discovered that it doesn't have a lid."The woman looked in the box."Oh, yes, you would think the lid would be here on the top."I was taking the different parts out of the box."Can't see a lid, " said the woman, but then I spotted something right at the bottom of the box and pulling it out discovered that it was in fact the flippin' lid! Will and I couldn't believe it."We got as far as Warwick and turned back" we said."Sorry boys," said the woman. We headed back home and got back just after 10.00 pm after adding 2 hours to our journey on a wild goose chase!Doh!
