Vivid, Sydney.

P1040656 (Medium)So...we made a 1490 km round trip to Sydney this weekend to see the Vivid Festival. It is an annual outdoor lighting event that began in 2009 and attracts lots of visitors to Sydney. I have always wanted to go and so this year we did. This year it is on from the 26th May to the 17th June.We set off on Saturday and stopped overnight in Armidale at our friend Andrew's house and then continued to Sydney on Sunday. We were hoping that Sunday night would be quiet as most of the people who would have gone for the weekend would have gone home. However it seems that the rest of Australia had the same thoughts and all turned up on Sunday evening too.It was not enjoyable being herded with the hordes by people with illuminated red batons into fenced pathways where all you could do was shuffle along. Other people with megaphones cheerily welcomed you and urged you to keep smiling and all I wanted to do was hit them.It did get quieter as the evening went on and it became less fraught but on the whole I was expecting it to be better than it was and I was disappointed overall .Halfway through the evening we got a phone call from the UK to say my Brother in Law had died which was a terrible shock and left us worrying about my sister and her family and wishing we were not so far away from them.
