Hoghton Tower

So...today we met up with friends Sherrie and Sue at Hoghton Tower near Preston. Hoghton Tower dates from 1560 and was, according to our guide, visited by a variety of Kings as well as Shakespeare and Dickens. Our guide was called Eric and seemed to me to be related to Dobbie the House Elf from Harry Potter.Hoghton Tower is famous because it was here that James I feasted upon a loin of beef so delicious that he knighted it and decreed that henceforth it should be named 'sirloin'...and so it is.
