The Possums!...as well as The Birds!
So...what have we started?Since we have been handing out the odd morsel to visiting possums here at Blue Moon, as a way of helping in these dry and dusty times, our possum visitors have become bolder. They actually seek us out and come to us if we go out of the door after dark. They, for there are a couple of them, have climbed up the front door, paraded past the bedroom window and even tapped and scratched at the window at our bed head in the dead of night. The possum who was bold enough to do that was not put off by the light and our faces peering closely through the glass. We could see she had a Joey in her pouch.Caliban, our one eyed male, reappeared tonight and I wondered if he too would be brave enough to take food from my hand....oh yes indeedy. These must be hard times.I was slightly unnerved the other night, nipping out to answer a call if nature, when I heard the alarming, rasping, asthmatic call of an approaching possum...I high tailed it back inside before it pounced on me out of the darkness, my heart all aflutter.Today, there was another strange occurrence, I heard a lot of twittering and saw a long drawn out flock of birds approaching in the sky. They were not large birds by their sound but I couldn't tell what they were. Weirdly, they stopped above Blue Moon house and began to circle about while the others in the line caught up. There were hundreds of them all flying about in a group but not like a murmuration of starlings, this group was much less organised. I dashed in to get my camera and when I came out they had risen higher in the sky but still circling and twittering before suddenly they all drifted off again over the trees. For a moment I wondered if something momentous was about to happen, like an earthquake or something but nothing did. Perhaps it was some kind of avian climate change protest. As if I wasn't feeling uneasy enough with the ongoing Brexit fiasco just getting worse and worse when you couldn't possibly imagine that it ever could. Now possums are getting bolder and birds are circling like mini vultures over my home.Let us hope that the impeachment of 'he who shall not be named' , (no not Voldemort, that fellow who is much worse and more orange than normal,)...let us hope it brings us some light relief and much needed joy!
