The other side of Christmas.

So...here we are in Limbo, that strange place between Christmas and New Year where no one knows what day it is anymore.

We had a lovely Christmas down by the river, where we wrestled with a 5.7 kg Salmon for Christmas dinner. It was too big to fit into the oven so we had to cook it on the barbeque. It all turned out well though ad was delicious.

I was able to have two great online video calls with my boys and also with my Mum and brothers and sister.

We returned home the day after Boxing Day and showed our passes at the Border and were allowed to re-enter Queensland without being sent into quarantine.

We are now preparing for visitors for New Year. Today it took over four hours and I walked nearly 18 kms just to cut the flipping grass. One day I will get a ride on mower and do it in less than half the time.

On our first night back we were visited by Possum Galore but there was no sign of Jnr. Last night Jnr appeared but there was no sign of Mum. We have discovered the cheeky little possum is sleeping up under the eaves on top of the shade cloth we have put up to cover the eaves. He can stay for now but once we finish the eaves at the back of the house he won't be able to do it anymore.

The 'chooks' are doing ok. we have been letting them out again all day to free range about the place and after four of them went broody and stopped laying while we were away on our trip we are now getting a few eggs a day again. Pacha still has her 9 chicks and they are growing fast. Chin Mu is not well though. We suspect she is egg bound. Will spent some time yesterday bathing her in warm water and massaging her swollen tummy. We have put her in with Pacha and the chicks to keep an eye on her. Today she has just been standing in a corner and not moved. Sadly there is little we can do to help her. One of our silky chicks is acting a bit odd too. It holds it's head to one side and sometimes goes around in circles. The last few days it has just been sitting curled up but then appears to have a few fairly normal moments. We shall just have to see how that all works out.

Will was getting a bit despondent after applying for a job a few weeks ago with Land Care. He hadn't heard anything and was beginning to think he had been passed over but got an email the other day saying his application had been received and that interviews would be in the New Year. Fingers crossed he gets one.
