Twosday Twowoomba 22.02.2022.

So...Goodbye gallbladder!

Today started at 2.30 am, a very early rise and we set off on the two hour drive to Toowoomba at 3.30am arriving just after 5.30am.

It looked a bit ominous this morning in the mist and I think that is Jesus standing up there with open arms!

Half an hour later I was sat in my hospital gown and awful paper knickers waiting to be seen. I had my first COVID test and worried that it was going to be positive and I would be sent home, but it wasn't and I wasn't.

I think it was about 7.45am when I went in. The surgeon came and chatted to me first and then the anaesthetist have me some 'good stuff', 'dementia in a syringe, you won't remember a thing' he said.

I didn't, the next thing I knew was people around me, talking, and then being wheeled along to somewhere. I saw Will but basically kept dozing off. I have been drowsy all day. Will said the doctor had rung him and had said all went well but when hi popped into see me later he said it had not been as straightforward as he had hoped and I had made him work. I was expecting three keyholes....I have five! Apparently my gallbladder was inflamed and there was a gallstone stuck in some tube but he got them all out.

He reckons I might be good to fly after two weeks which is exciting but we will see.

There was a bit of drama when I got up to go to the loo, I knocked my cannula in my left hand and the next thing I noticed there was blood dripping all over the floor.

Not only is today's date pretty special but weirdly, it is six years to the day that I had my operation in Brisbane to remove a cyst on my lung. Another odd thing is that the guy who is sharing my room moved to Australia in 1973 and he is from Penrith and his wife is from Carlisle!!!!

It's a private hospital and the thing that is most different from other hospitals I have been in is they have room service and a menu. You just ring up and order whatever you want whenever you want between 6.30am and 6.30 pm. There is even a sirloin steak on the menu!

I didn't feel up to that now I am gallbladderless!

The doctor expects I will be able to go home tomorrow morning. Let the recovery begin!

Hopefully soon I will be heading up over to see my Mum, my boys and my new grandson! I can't wait.
