Meanwhile Down Under!

So...sometime Thursday night, Friday morning, local time, Cyclone Alfred will make landfall in the greater Brisbane/ Gold Coast area of Queensland. (Some mansplaining...sorry if you know this and if I'm wrong...) These storms are called Hurricanes in the Northern hemisphere but in the Southern hemisphere are called Cyclones. These northern and southern storms spin in opposite directions like water down plug holes! It is 50 years or so since a cyclone hit the Brisbane area. It will likely be a category 2 storm on landfall but will quickly deintensify to a 'tropical low' as it heads inland. There will be strong storm surges on the coast, destructive winds and flooding from heavy rain. Frogknot could get up to 200 mm of rain over the next few days. The rain will be welcome in our area but the inconvenience of flooding will not. We are thinking of all our family, friends and neighbours at this time.
