Still here!
Will was up first this morning...again. I lay in bed to give him time to break the bad news to Dulcie about the red wardrobes she didn't want.I came out and thought about waving a white flag around the corner before stepping into the kitchen but didn't. I braced myself and said " Good Morning.""Good morning," came the usual reply. It was not what I expected. When she wasn't looking I mouthed to Will ' have you told her yet?' He shook his head.Heck! It was too late to go back under the duvet. When the moment came he told her that he had some good news and bad news. The good news was that we were nearly finished sorting out under the house and it would be soon be back to normal but the bad news was that while he was on the phone last night I had gone downstairs and when he came down I had...."Not painted the wardrobes red?!" she said.I had my head in my hands. I couldn't look."Nick! You know I hate red! Bill, I told you I didn't want them painted red!" It was very awkward. She agreed to come down and see for herself. She didn't say much...just looked in horror. We agreed to paint them white...although they looked much better in the red.As if the fates were playing with us the tin with the guilty paintbrush and turps that I had left in the sink had fallen over and the sink was stained red too! Will was able to scrub it clean with the help of Ajax.It was perhaps best that we spent much of the afternoon out of the house up at Garden City. Firstly, and appropriately for the time of year, Mary helped us set up a new joint account with ANZ. Then Di, at the Medicare office, looked over my documentation and processed it and gave me my temporary Medicare card.On the way home we had a list of things Dulcie wanted from Aldi and the Pharmacy. She also wanted a sugarloaf cabbage which they didn't have at Aldi so we called in Woolies near home. The woman on the till seemed to be having trouble finding the price on her till and in the end said..."Oh well, as it's Christmas...you can have the cabbage for free!"More good news to give to Dulcie! It was sure to illicit a "Good God!"....It did.The atmosphere was much better. I even risked joking about there being lots of red paint left and suggesting we paint the front verandah red.Oh! You should have seen the look she gave me!...but I could sense she was hiding a smile.
