Busy, busy, busy!
Yesterday Dulcie had not slept well the night before, which is very unusual. She had not been able to get to sleep until late and then woke up at 5.30 am and could not get back to sleep.Still it did not stop her, during the day, from doing a load of washing, weeding the fernery and tidying it up, (it would seem that some of the ferns had died.... mysteriously....vitamin B poisoning perhaps?.....oops!) washing the back steps and then the front verandah and steps.‘What was Nick doing?’ I hear you ask....well, I was chauffeur to Deranie and Phoebe, running them to see Will at work and then out to the airport, just after lunch, to catch their plane home. In the afternoon I went on an Aldi shop and then out to pick Will up from work.We sat playing cards after tea like three knackered zombies.Dulcie slept well last night....12 hours....8.00 pm until 8.00 am.My day started with good intentions. I had sent off my C.V off to two Kindergarten Organisations and had received a reply from one directing me to re-send it via another link on their website. I began to fill in the form until it began to ask about qualifications and blue cards (criminal record checks) and evidence of these and I began to lose the will to live.I put some washing in and found Dulcie cleaning out one of the cupboards in the kitchen. I think I had been putting things back in the wrong place after washing up and she wanted to sort it out and put things back in the right place. I helped her clean it out and then she wanted me to spray it with ‘Baygon’ (cockroach killer). I was not sure that spraying cockroach killer on the shelves you keep your pans on was a good idea but Dulcie has reached 91 and has probably been doing it for years. After lunch I cleaned out the fridge while Dulcie was watching ‘The Virginian’. (It was a good one today.) I was called away briefly from the fridge when the Postie dropped something off in the post box. She had been sat by the door watching whether he stopped and by the time I got back in the house she was in her chair, with glasses on, ready to read it. I noticed a mark on the wall by the front door so got a cloth to wipe it.‘Nick, stop cleaning, sit down and have a rest,’ said an authoritative voice. If I say that to her she doesn’t listen to me. I was nearly done though so did as I was told.I have finally completed the form I put off this morning and sent it off. If I can get a part time job as an assistant teacher in a Kindergarten, like Will, it will be perfect.
