The 'Lakes District' comes to Brisbane.

Dulcie likes to listen to the news each morning on the radio.....it is tuned to '4BC Brisbane'.I don't think it is an FM signal and it is very hard to hear it with some static noise and constant whine.Following the news today the announcer talked a bout  anew job that was on offer which entailed 'getting high' each day.....he left a short pause and then said....."but not 'that' way of getting high,'.......oh how we laughed.......not!It turned out the job was a 'Fell Top Assessor' in the 'English Lakes District."It's 'Lake' not 'Lakes' " I wanted to shout at the radio....but didn't.The announcer had rung the UK and had recorded an interview with a guy who was doing the job presently and who would be working with the new employee. The job entailed climbing Helvellyn every morning from November until April to assess the weather conditions on the top and report them online for fell walkers. As there would be two doing the job it was only 7 days on and 7 days off."Do you ever get tired of doing it?" Asked the announcer."If you get tired of the mountains then you are tired of life," said the Fell Assessor."I used to live in Newcastle Upon Tyne once," said the announcer, "And I know the 'Lakes' District very well....."Not so well if you call it  'Lakes' and not 'Lake' I thought."It's a very beautiful part of the World," the announcer went on."The most beautiful," said the Fell Assessor."Well ok,  the second most beautiful after Brisbane, " said the announcer. The interview ended."So there you go if you fancy a job as a Cumbrian Fell Assessor bung in your CV," said the announcer.I was tempted and wondered if my feet would be up to  the job. I looked down at them but couldn't see them because of my belly....Best give it a miss.
