Queensland votes!

So.....today is election day in Queensland. The Liberal Party Premier Campbell Newman is seeking a second term in office after defeating Labour in the 2012 election in the largest defeat of sitting government in Queensland history. Anna Bligh, the previous Labour Premier resigned after the defeat and Annastacia Palaszczuk succeeded her as Labour leader.Campbell Newman, a previous Lord Mayor of Brisbane, has become very unpopular since his election victory. In order to deal with the massive State debt he inherited he proposed selling off some of Queensland's assets but after public consultation changed to offering them for 99 year leases.Since the last election there have been three by- elections in the State and all have been won by Labour. He announced the date of the election (31st Jan) on the 6th January. It is unusual for elections to be held in January. Not once has Tony Abbott, the Liberal Prime Minister of Australia, been up here to help Campbell with his electioneering.....saying that " Cameron wanted to run the campaign alone." Not really surprising......if anyone is more loathed than Campbell Newman it is Tony Abbott.....especially after he recently announced Prince Phillip was to be knighted!.......the 'Sir Duke of Edinburgh?'It remains to be seen how it will all turn out. Campbell Newman is hoping that people will vote to keep his 'strong team' while Annastacia Palaszczuk has said Labour will not give away Queensland's assets but she does not come across as Leadership material and always looks a bit bewildered.Polls suggest the Liberals will win but it is very likely that Campbell Newman will lose his seat at Ashgrove and therefore have to be replaced as the Premier.Whatever happens we are doomed.....as in the National Government there is no one who seems genuine or worthy of respect and office and as for some of the other candidates seeking election.....you would not believe it. One was recently filmed whacking his three year old son across the head in a restaurant, another was caught driving after being banned and then there is Pauline Hanson:"Immigration and multiculturalism are issues that this government is trying to address, but for far too long ordinary Australians have been kept out of any debate by the major parties. I and most Australians want our immigration policy radically reviewed and that of multiculturalism abolished. I believe we are in danger of being swamped by Asians. Between 1984 and 1995, 40% of all migrants coming into this country were of Asian origin. They have their own culture and religion, form ghettos and do not assimilate. Of course, I will be called racist but, if I can invite whom I want into my home, then I should have the right to have a say in who comes into my country. A truly multicultural country can never be strong or united."When asked if she was xenophobic she replied...."Please explain?"Dulcie has voted by postal vote, Will went to cast his vote yesterday.....I cannot vote......I am not a citizen. It's a good job actually......It would be so difficult to choose between the idiots.
