'Crash! Bang! Wallop-io!'

So...we are nearing, hopefully, the end of this heatwave. It has been very hot and sticky and therefore, uncomfortable at night.Storms always follow the heat and thunderstorms were predicted all weekend and we were looking forward to getting some rain. We saw and heard the storms but despite the weather reports giving us a high chance of rain the storms passed us by. We are not sure why, whether it is something to do with the topography or just bad luck but a prediction of 90% chance of rain often comes to nothing.Yesterday our chance of rain was pretty low so we we were not expecting any but at 2.00 am in the morning we were woken by thunder.A storm rolled over us the likes I have never seen. It lasted for perhaps less than half an hour but the lightning and thunder was constant. It was like strobe lighting. The thunder rolled about the hills and the ground shook. It was quite terrifying and has made me slightly more nervous at seeing storms approaching now.We got rain, 20 mls in those 30 minutes but it was so heavy and fell so fast that it hardly soaked in and just ran off the surface of the ground and down the hill.I can hear another storm approaching as I write this. Let's hope it is more rain and less bang!
